Pancho Villa
The different legends surrounding the outlaw/Revolutionary leader Pancho Villa agree on very few things, but he was born in 1878 on the Rancho de la Coyotada to Augustin Arango and Micaela Arambula and was originally named Doroteo Arango.
According to the White Legend of Pancho Villa, which came from his autobiography, he was the innocent victim of a ruthless government. The future revolutionary came home from working the fields. His mother was arguing with Lopez Negrete, the hacendado that owned the Rancho, about Doroteo's sister and how there was no need for Lopez to take her off. Doroteo retrieved a gun and shot Lopez in the foot. Lopez prevented Doroteo from being shot on the spot. However, Doroteo knew he could be arrested and fled to the mountains of Northern Mexico. Thus began his criminal career as a bandit. The relentless pursuit by the Porfirian authorities kept the young Doroteo on the run and forced him into bad company. His compatriots led Pancho to more and more serious crimes.
The key to the White legend is, although Villa continued to commit crimes, the proceeds of these crimes were returned to the poor people of the country. If he rustled cattle, the beef was given as a gift to the community.
